The Ministry of Justice authenticates and certifies various papers and documents the official use within and outside the Kingdom, to include:
1- All types of powers of attorney
2- Documents issued by courts
3- Documents issued by the notary public
4- Documents issued by the Bar Association
5- Personal documents
6- Translation of marriage contracts
7- Any paper or document needed for legal or judicial purposes
Authentication of academic degrees is within the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
Regarding translations, authentication is only of the translation date and translator's stamp and signature, where as the translator holds full responsibility of the translation accuracy and content.
Procedures for Service Attainment
Documents are authenticated at the Authentication Office at the Ministry of Justice which falls under the Authentications Department at the Foreign Ministry.
Jordanian documents for use outside Jordan require that they by first certified by the entity that issued the documents, followed by the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the concerned embassy. Sometimes, it may be requested that the documents be re-certified by the Jordanian Consul or Embassy at the concerned country, depending on the procedure and regulations of the entity requesting the document.
Foreign documents for use inside the Kingdom are required to be first certified by the embassy of the issuing country followed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Justice and after which the documents may be submitted to the entity within the Kingdom which requested the documents.
Authentications of translations follow the same procedure and sequence stated above, even if the original document was duly certified.
To save time and effort, it is preferred to always translate any document issued inside the Kingdom to the language required and to certify several copies of the translation prior to sending the document for use outside the Kingdom, due to the requirements that the preparation of such translations abroad would require the visiting of Jordanian Consuls and Embassies abroad, which may require travel and transportation and possible delays.
